Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

Design and Architecture
Lisboa, Portugal, 2010

Consultant for the Music Department of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

In 2010 Guta Moura Guedes was invited by the Artistic Director Risto Niemen to renovate the image of the Music Department of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Together with Niemen’s team and after several brainstorming sessions, GMG invited and commissioned the English designer Ian Andersen from The Designers Republic, who she had collaborated with various times before. The end result was a more current graphic language, more receptive to a younger audience and in sync with the more eclectic programme of the Foundation.

The Gulbenkian Foundation has the elemental purpose of improving people’s quality of life through art, science and education. Developing its activities in Lisbon but with delegations in Paris and London, the Foundation achieves its mission through innovative programmes and by supporting projects and institutions through scholarships and funding. The Foundation includes a Museum that hosts the collection of modern and contemporary art of its founder Calouste Gulbenkian.  It does also stand out for its cultural influence and importance –  it has an art library and archive and it runs a scientific research institution. It is one of the most prominent cultural sites in Lisbon, famous for its beautiful garden and for the dynamic educational programmes that produces throughout the year.
